1950s King Zephyr / Super 20 Tenor Saxophone - custom built by Phil Noy
This amazing King Zephyr (1959 #367xxx) was completely rebuilt by Phil Noy for one of his customers who wanted a spectacular playing King that feels like a Super 20. Phil has matched an original solid silver Super 20 neck to the horn (in excellent condition) and all the guards were handmade by Mike Barnes in the UK. This is one of the funkiest tenors I’ve played and I would happily keep it and play it as my main horn… if only.
It has a big, robust, meaty tone that is focussed yet easily fills a room and it plays with fast response over the entire range. Tuning is excellent. Altissimo is excellent as is subtone in the lower end. It is interesting to note that King Super 20 and King Zephyr body tubes were likely exactly the same, so with the solid silver neck, this horn is everybit as good as a Super 20!
This is suited to someone playing jazz/funk/blues or soul styles - it really will be a great “forever” horn for someone in the market for something unique that plays exceptionally well. The lacquer has been stripped and it has been given a brushed matte finish. A clear vintage look has been painted on to protect the metal. It is slightly patchy inside the bell.
It comes in a like new Protec shaped zip up case. It also comes with a 12 month warranty on all mechanical parts and pads.
